Local Family Pulling up Roots: Moving to Grenada for Missions work

Stephanie Bergsma

By Stephanie Bergsma

For one local family, this spring is not only going to blossom flowers but also new experiences, life-changing events and a sense of humanitarian work. The Bergsma family has partnered with Gospel Ministries International, a faith-based, volunteer-driven organization which seizes opportunities to carry God’s love, through sacrifice, to the world. They will be volunteering their services in medical missionary work, horticulture, construction and media - all with the goal of teaching people about the love of Jesus.

Matthew and Stephanie, along with their 3 children, will be leaving for Grenada in mid-May and will be serving a term of at least 2-3 years, but longer if that's God's plan for them. Matthew is the son of Ralph and Christine Bergsma and Stephanie is the daughter of Glen and Liane Folber, all from the Pembroke area. Stephanie is also the author of the "Cooking For Life" series of cookbooks which feature all gluten free, dairy free, egg free and plant based recipes using locally available ingredients.

Grenada is a small island-country in the southwestern portion of the Caribbean Sea. The island has only 110,000 people but the needs are still as real and as large as many other 2nd world countries.
